Alert Magazine Scholarship: Write an essay (650 – 800 words) about a personal encounter you or someone you know has had with drug and/or alcohol abuse, how it was dealt with, what you learned from it. Juniors and Sophomores will be given the opportunity to take the PSAT Wednesday, October 19th. The PSAT serves as the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship, which honors the top 2% of students in the country. The test measures critical reading skills, math problem-solving skills and writing skills. Only Juniors qualify for the National Merit Scholarship. There is a $15 testing fee. Students planning to register for the test should bring a check to Mr. Varriano made out to MPCG. The deadline to register is September 20th.
Homecoming Week is September 12 -17! National Honor Society Induction and the Coronation Program will be Monday, September 12th, starting at 2:30 in the auditorium, a change in time from our usual schedule. Students, bring any exciting new Homecoming ideas to your Student Council members, or better yet, become a member of the Student Council and be involved in planning all student events!
Everyone is invited to a “Near Space Balloon Launch” on the Mayville State Campus – to learn the history, how-to, and why of high altitude ballooning in education Friday, September 9th at 10 AM, 2 PM and 4 PM, in the Luckasen Room – and to witness the launch in front of the Power House, then track and retrieve the payload on Saturday, September 10th at 7 AM. There will be a Middle School Student Council Meeting on TOMORROW at 3:05 in Mrs. M. Johnson’s room. All middle school representatives from each homeroom section should attend this meeting. Bring a pencil and paper to take notes.

Seniors! It’s time for you to choose your Homecoming King & Queen Candidates and Honor Escorts. Please come to the office to vote any time between now and noon this Friday. You will vote for 3 Senior Girls and 3 Seniors Boys; and 1 Girl and 1 Boy from each of grades 9-11. All students in grades 9-12 will vote for King & Queen on Friday, September 9th.
