A note on School Web Filtering…

Internet safety is a big priority in our Technology department at MPCG.  We strive to ensure every student and staff member is safe when using the Internet.  Within our network, we have two different filters.  Both filters are CIPA (Children’s Internet Protection Act) compliant.  Our state network provides a filter that is used statewide with schools.  This blocks violence, pornography, etc.  As an added layer, our school has implemented another filter to go on top of the state filter.  This helps ensure that sites do not slip through the cracks.  It also filters our school owned Chromebooks when offsite.  With our state filter, the filter only works IN our school.  If a school owned device is taken off of our network to another internet network, the filter wouldn’t be in place.  However, the filter we implement above and beyond the state does just that.  It takes care of our school owned devices at home to ensure Internet Safety for each and every student using a Chromebook.  Pretty neat, as well as important!  As always, filters are not 100% effective.  Sites can slip through the cracks but that is a rare occurrence.

Internet safety is an important topic to have with your child at home.  In today’s society the Internet and technology is everywhere.  Make sure to have this conversation at home and encourage safety when using the Internet.  We need your help to ensure that our students get the most important expectations both at school and at home.
